“Screwdriverless” Migration: The Bridge to Open Access Control

By Matthew Barnette, President of Mercury Security

Following the continued success of our Casi Micro 5 bridge product, Mercury launched the next evolution of our migration strategy ASIS 2016 to help end customers transition from proprietary, legacy access control systems.  The new product line – the MS Bridge – enables customers to migrate their existing Software House iSTAR Pro installations to the open Authentic Mercury platform.  The launch is off to a fantastic start as eight of Mercury’s Platinum Elite and Platinum partners showcased the new integration in their respective booths at the show.  It was a great three days in Orlando, punctuated by our new bridge series being named best “New Access Control Product of the Year” by Security Products Magazine in the Access Control Software/Controllers category.

Mercury is thrilled to receive this validation around our bridge product strategy at a time where we see continued consolidation in the market and the introduction of new technologies.  We can certainly count on these two dynamics as constants in the access control industry.  Mercury’s goal is to ensure our partners and end customers have the flexibility to evolve based on their needs and changes in a dynamic market landscape.

In the past, some organizations have chosen to retain their existing systems until an upgrade is forced due to system failures or other drivers; some organizations have simply taken the approach of swapping a very old system for an updated yet still proprietary one.   Often times, end-users have taken these approaches based on the lack of clear and economical alternatives.

We are proud to say that our cost-effective approach to upgrades enables organizations to immediately move to open, interoperable access control that not only addresses any existing requirements, but also sets organizations up to leverage whatever technological advancements are in store in the future.   Our “bridge” products are shaped from the existing Authentic Mercury controller platform and are designed to fit the specific physical parameters of Software House’s iSTAR Pro Series and Casi Micro5 enclosures for a direct board replacement and streamlined upgrades.
